Bar-B-Q Sauce
| We have no financial interest in the
company we have shown below. Kathy and I
am just a very satisfied customers who enjoy great Bar-B-Q.
We don't have the opportunity to go 'restaurant hopping' and
we like to experiment with different Bar-B-Q sauces at home. |

Twenty-five years ago I used to order this
Bar-B-Q sauce by the case (twelve 32oz. bottles).
We've moved twice since then and I lost their contact
information.
I remembered the city in which this Bar-B-Q sauce
was made (Shell Knob, MO) and, low-and-behold, they are now
celebrating their 45th year in business! I called,
ordered a case and it is exactly the
same recipe that I enjoyed all those years ago! The
restaurant is located on Highway 39 just south of the
Central Crossing Bridge. If you are in the
neighborhood stop by and say "Hi!". Their
local phone number is 858-6268 and their mailing
address is: B & J Smoke House, HCR1, Box 4555, Shell
Knob, MO 65747.
This sauce is, without a doubt, the BEST traditional style Bar-B-Q sauce
we have ever had the pleasure to wrap our lips around!
This sauce is heads and shoulders above anything
else that we have ever tried.
B & J Smoke
House Bar-B-Q sauce is a traditional tomato based sauce but the
ingredients, in our opinion, make it one of the best we have
ever tasted. It is not a 'hot' sauce like a lot of
sauces are. It is very mild and this sauce goes well
with chicken, pork and beef.
If you looking for something different when grilling or
creating great Bar-B-Q try this sauce. You WILL
be a "Happy Camper"! B &
J Smoke House does not have a website and they still ship by U.
S. Mail like they did 20 years ago (parcel post). They are not
'high tech' but their product more than makes up for it.The price is very
reasonable and they can be contacted at 1-800-815-0512. I
can safely say, without any hesitation, that you will
not be disappointed! This sauce is awesome!!!
January 2008 update: B & J
now has a habanero chili based sauce that is 'liquid fire'.
If you like 'Hot!' then this sauce is for you!
February 17, 2008: B & J
is moving into their new facility and the phone is not yet
connected to their answering machine. |

Los Roy's Butcher Shop
For those of you who fortunate enough to
live in (or around) Yuma, Arizona there is a new meat market
that has an fantastic selection of Certified Angus Beef as
well as jugs of B & J Smokehouse Bar-B-Q sauce. They also
specialize in Kammann sausage (a local delicacy) , carne
asada, fresh oysters and other specialty meats that are not
normally found in the chain grocery stores.
Los Roy's Butcher Shop is a traditional 'Mom & Pop'
style business. It is owned and operated by Glen and Angeles
Roy. Charlie "The Butcher" (a twenty year+ friend of Glen)
does the 'magic' with the meat. These folks
have put together a really neat store that is reminiscent of
a small, neighborhood butcher shop like I
remember when I was a kid in the 50's. Los Roy's is located in the
Palm Plaza Shopping Center located on the East side of
Avenue A between the Yuma Regional Medical Center (on
24th Street) and the Foothills Bank (on 20th
Street).
I am not a 'steak snob' but I know what I like. There
is nothing worse (to me, anyway) to have purchased some
super looking steaks and have them cook out to replicate
tire rubber. Just for the record I cook over charcoal
briquettes and cook the steaks a full medium and no more.
I have
sampled what most connoisseurs would considered to be the best Porterhouse steaks available
to the general public and those are available from Allen
Brothers out of Chicago, IL. Four 16oz Porterhouse
steaks cost (at that time) $139.00 plus shipping (as of
January 2008 they now cost $169.00). I
have to honestly say that those four steaks were the best
and obviously the most expensive steaks that I have ever had in my
entire life.
Los Roy's was
recommended to me by a close friend just before Christmas of 2007.
I visited the store and was totally impressed by the quality of the
meats displayed in the showcase and the people running the
store. Charlie (the butcher) is in a class all by
himself. He is personable and knows of what he talks
about when it comes to fine beef (anything else I'm not so
sure :>) ). If a movie was made about Charlie
Jack Nicholson would find it tough to play the role....
Anyway, I purchased
two Certified Angus Beef Porterhouse steaks (1 1/2" thick)
from Los Roy's and they were, in my humble
opinion, just as tender and flavorful as the Allen
Brothers steaks for a fraction of the cost. Ever tried cutting an 1 1/2"
steak using only a fork?
Los Roy's selection of certified Angus beef is
not inexpensive - you get what you pay for. However,
if you are looking for a exceptional dining experience, have
special guests coming for dinner and your menu includes beef then certified Angus beef is your
choice. You will not be sorry... |

Here are Charlie and Glen putting together a batch of carne
asada together
in preparation for Super Bowl 2008 while arguing who will win
the game. |
