Bottle Stopper Kits

Bottle stopper kits do not include the material for the top piece.

Bottle stoppers have been around since man discovered that liquids can and will spill out of a container if there is nothing there to prevent it.  Stoppers can be used for their intended purpose or can be used as decorations.  Many people collect wood from all over the world in the form of stoppers, they make excellent gifts and are very easy to make.

When comparing prices please be aware that we sell only sell bottle stopper kits made in Taiwan.  The words 'quality control' are in the Taiwanese dictionary.

We can ship 20 Deluxe stoppers by Priority Mail for $4.95 or 80 Deluxe stoppers by Priority Mail for $10.50, or 120 stoppers for $14.50 (two to three day delivery).  Shipping charges can add a significant cost to your purchase and we do everything we can in order to keep your shipping costs low.  Insured shipments cost extra.

Sorry, but stoppers are not yet available for beer cans  :>))

A special note:
If you are selling your stoppers I highly recommend that you use the stainless steel model.  It is a little more expensive than some of the other models but you will never have to worry about a customer bringing back the stopper to you because of corrosion problems.

The stainless steel stoppers are the only stoppers we guarantee against any form of corrosion caused by any liquid that can be safely consumed by human beings.  When in doubt use stainless steel!

Machined from one solid piece of 304 Stainless steel bar stock, these little beauties are made right here in the United States. They come with the same reliable & long lasting black silicone rubber wedge seal found on all of the stoppers we carry in this style (the seals are pre-installed by us and you don't have to worry about them breaking).  This one piece unit comes with the tenon cut with the same 3/8"-16 threads as our other black silicone wedge stoppers.  The threaded Tenon is not removable.

The Mini-Stoppers have an overall length of 2 11/32" (including the threaded tenon).  Top of flat base to the pointed tip measures approximately 1 7/8" long and the base diameter measures approximately .734".

As you can see in the picture below the Mini-Stopper fits lower in a bottle with a smaller opening. Keep in mind that the inside hole diameter of wine bottles vary as much as the selection of candy bars at your local market.  There is no industry standard for the inside diameter of wine bottles.

BHW-473   Adjustable Stainless Steel & Chrome Bottle Stopper
These stoppers are made & plated in Taiwan and not in China.
Adjustable Bottle Stopper Kit Instructions PDF

We have an adjustable bottle stopper that will fit numerous bottles as well as having the added benefit of being constructed out of 304 stainless steel and chrome.  The flat washer and screw that are exposed to corrosive elements are made of Type 304 stainless steel.  The gaskets are made from food grade silicone rubber.  This stopper also has our standard 3/8"-16 threads so it is compatible with all of our mandrels, buffing handles, etc.

This stopper is unique in that it adapts itself to the inside neck opening of typical wine bottles.  The various adjustment results in tightening the top piece of the stopper.  In other words, as you tighten the stopper (turning clockwise) the soft silicone gaskets expand thus sealing the bottle.  Turning the stopper top counter-clockwise will reduce the size of the soft silicone gaskets allowing the stopper to be removed from the bottle.

Tooling to make the creation of these stoppers a little bit easier.....

One-piece #1 Morse Taper and #2 Morse Taper Bottle Stopper Mandrels
We now offer two bottle stopper mandrels manufactured from one solid piece of 304 stainless steel.  These mandrels will work on all of the bottle stoppers we carry that have a 3/8"-16 threads (AZSBS-463, AZSBSB-464, BHW-465, -466, -467, -470, -471, -472 and -473 series stoppers).  You do not need a three- jawed chuck or a Jacobs chuck to utilize these new mandrels.  Just install in the headstock of your lathe and away you go.

These mandrels are made with a Number 1 and a Number 2 Morse taper and both have 3/8"-16 threads.  Each mandrel also has a 1/4"-20 threaded hole in the tail to allow for the use of a drawbar.  Here is a short video produced by Ed Davidson on how to make and use a drawbar:  Morse Taper Bottle Stopper Mandrels .

These mandrels utilize the two different sizing bushings that are used for the AZSBS-463, AZSBS-464, BHW-465, -468, -471, -472 and -473  series stoppers.  Each mandrel is sold separately and you will need to order the correct sizing bushing for the bottle stopper you wish to make.  Order both size sizing bushings and you are all set for both diameters.

We recommend that you use the 3/8"-16 Norseman Bottom Tap $3.95 as well as the 5/16" Norseman Drill Bit $4.49 to make it easier to mount the material used for the bottle stopper handle onto the mandrels.

Bottle Stopper Buffing Handle

Have you ever had the sad experience of having a finished bottle stopper blank get 'caught & thrown' by a buffing wheel?  Using our Delrin handle will give you a much more secure way of buffing the stoppers and not having to worry about dodging a run-a-way stopper block.  The handle is 7" long and comes complete with two Delrin bushings for shallow or deep 3/8"-16 threads. This handle will work with the BHW-464, -465, -466, -467, -469, -470, -471, -472 and the BHW-473 series stoppers.

Berea Hardwoods Premium Bottle Stopper Kits

We supply an additional plating of Berea's classy premium bottle stopper - gold titanium.  The all chrome stoppers have been available for some time and we wanted to do something different with them and we believe we have.  The rich gold titanium plating is highlighted by the whiteness of the "O" rings and, as you can see in the pictures below, they really are exceptional.  The long lasting titanium plating over the solid brass body gives these stoppers a feel not offered by other stoppers.  Each stopper weighs approximately 3 1/2 ounces. These are perfect for that special piece of wood that you've been holding back to use on that 'special project'.

Making A Bottle Stopper
Compiled and photographed by Ed Davidson
"Mr. Bottle Stopper"

Here are five different methods to chuck a bottle stopper blank on your lathe. There are probably several more, but these are the one's I'm most familiar with.

Method # 1...my favorite, with chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted using Arizona Silhouette's hefty mandrel in a drill chuck on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 23/64" bit.

Method # 2...chrome cone style stopper base, using PSI's 1" x 8tpi chuck mounted on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 11/32" bit.

Method # 3...Chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted onto a worm-screw that comes with all Nova "scroll chucks". The blank was drilled with a 3/8" bit.

Method # 4...Berea All-Chrome stopper base: Blank is mounted using Arizona Silhouette's little mandrel in a drill chuck on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 6mm or 15/64" bit

Method # 5...My least favorite. Chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted using a 3/8" metal rod about 2" long, in a Nova scroll chuck. Note the nail that's used to wedge the blank onto the chuck. The blank hole is drilled with a 3/8" bit.

The Mission of Freedom Alliance is to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense.

It was 113 here yesterday....

A friend and customer called the other day and in the course of our conversation he mentioned that he had a dog that was fourteen years old and was showing signs of age.  I asked him if he had ever read "The Dog's Prayer" and he had not heard of it.  As a courtesy to him and to others that have not read it I am posting it here.  Kleenex will be needed.....

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Beth Norman Harris

The following is my own personal opinion...
I am a forty-two year resident of Yuma, Arizona.  My home town is located on the Arizona/California/Mexico border along the Colorado River.

Our country has been invaded by foreign nationals for over the past 26 years and I am no longer willing to keep my head down and not say anything for fear of offending someone.  I do not see this issue as political.  This is an issue of abiding by current Federal law.  Anyone from another country who is residing in this country without proper documentation is an illegal alien.

If my personal beliefs effect my business - I'm willing to live with that.  If I have offended someone - I'm willing to live with that too.

I have lived in this great country for 63+ years and I am not going to back down from any threat directed at the United States - foreign or domestic.  If you would like to see for yourself what Arizona and this country are up against take a look at these two websites: mexica-movement.org and mexica-movement . Take a look at the pictures shown below that were taken during a demonstration in Phoenix, AZ last summer.

If you would like to help out Arizona please consider donating to our state's Build The Fence fund by clicking on the link below.  This is not just an Arizona problem - illegal immigration affects all of us.  Should you believe as I do and want to help out then put your money where your mouth is.  70% of us living in Arizona approve of SB1070 and we certainly appreciate your support.  Someday we might be able to financially support your state in accomplishing the same legislation Arizona passed.

$5.00, $10.00 and $20.00 donations are most welcome.  Thank you for your consideration.

Update July 27, 2011   We are not giving up!

Build The Border Fence

Arizona Governor versus the owner of the Phoenix Suns Basketball Team

The owner of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, Robert Sarver, opposes Arizona's new immigration laws. Arizona's Governor, Jan Brewer, released the following statement in response to Sarver's criticism of the new law (SB1070):

"What if the owners of the Sun's discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying? What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are, but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldn't be ejected. Furthermore, what if the Sun's ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink? And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Sun's had to provide free medical care and shelter?"

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer

The following is an a example of what is taking place in Arizona.  Have you seen these pictures on any the main stream media outlets?
This demonstration took place on July 31, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.
