Bottle Stopper Kits

Bottle stoppers have been around since man discovered that liquids can and will spill out of a container if there is nothing there to prevent it.  Stoppers can be used for their intended purpose or can be used as decorations.  Many people collect wood from all over the world in the form of stoppers, they make excellent gifts and are very easy to make.

When comparing prices please be aware that we can ship 30 Deluxe stoppers by Priority Mail for $4.60 or 100 Deluxe stoppers By Priority Mail for $8.95 (two to three day delivery).  Shipping charges can add a significant cost to your purchase and we do everything we can in order to keep your shipping costs low.  Insured shipments cost extra.

Sorry, but stoppers are not yet available for beer cans  :>))

Please read the Shipping Terms & Information page regarding shipping charges before ordering.

Deluxe Bottle Stoppers

We are proud to have our own line of stoppers in chrome, black titanium, gold titanium, bright copper and solid Type 316 polished stainless steel.  All four of these stoppers are highlighted by the black silicone rubber wedge.  The thread size is the same as the Penn State Industries and Craft Supplies USA stoppers of the same design (3/8"-16 threads per inch).  This kit will accommodate bottles having a 5/8" to 13/16"  neck opening.

A special note:

If you are selling your stoppers I highly recommend that you use the stainless steel model.  It is a little more expensive than some of the other models but you will never have to worry about a customer bringing back the stopper to you because of corrosion problems.

The stainless steel stoppers are the only stoppers we guarantee against any form of corrosion caused by any liquid that can be safely consumed by human beings.

When in doubt use stainless steel.

Chrome (BHW-465), gold titanium (BHW-467) and black titanium (BHW-466)

Arizona Silhouette Inc is proud to offer an exclusive new material in our bottle stopper line - Type 316 stainless steel.  Although these stoppers are a little more expensive than the chrome and copper stoppers, people who sell (or give away) the Type 316 SST stoppers are buying "piece of mind".  Anyone who makes stoppers looses control on how their pieces are used once they leave their shop.  Some people will use a regular chrome or copper stopper they purchased with a liquid material that is corrosive in nature and, with long exposure, may eventually cause the plating to flake or corrode (wine vinegars for example) .  Type 316 SST will stand up to anything that a human may or want to consume.  When you sell one of our SST stoppers you don't have to worry about it coming back to you unless the top material has somehow failed.

Type 316 stainless steel is the best stainless steel for this type of application.  Used for their intended purpose, you do not have to concern yourself about corrosion.  The following information came from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel  :

"Type 316—the second most common grade (after 304); for food and surgical stainless steel uses; Alloy addition of molybdenum prevents specific forms of corrosion. 316 steel is used in the manufacture and handling of food and pharmaceutical products where it is often required in order to minimize metallic contamination. It is also known as "marine grade" stainless steel due to its increased resistance to chloride corrosion compared to type 304. SS316 is often used for building nuclear reprocessing plants. Most watches that are made of stainless steel are made of Type 316L;....."

The hobbyist also has the option of altering the finish of this stopper.  These stoppers can be glass-beaded for a satin finish, they can be buffed to a higher gloss and they can be jeweled without having to worry about working through any plating since there isn't any plating.

We can ship 30 of the Deluxe stoppers for $4.75 by Flat Rate Priority Mail,  100 stoppers for $9.30 Flat Rate Priority Mail, or 160 stoppers for $12.50 Flat Rate Priority Mail.  Postal insurance is additional.

NEW!!

BHW-470
304 Stainless Steel Mini-Stoppers
Patent Pending

We have received numerous requests for a smaller bottle stopper made from stainless steel.  We are proud to introduce to you the Mini-Stopper!

Machined from one solid piece of 304 Stainless steel bar stock, these little beauties are made right here in the United States. They come with the same reliable & long lasting black silicone rubber wedge seal found on all of the stoppers we carry in this style (the seals are pre-installed by us and you don't have to worry about them breaking).  This one piece unit comes with the tenon cut with the same 3/8"-16 threads as our other black silicone wedge stoppers.  The threaded tenon is not removable.

The Mini-Stoppers have an overall length of 2 11/32" (including the threaded tenon).  Top of flat base to the pointed tip measures approximately 1 7/8" long and the base diameter measures approximately .734".

As you can see in the picture below the Mini-Stopper fits lower in a bottle with a smaller opening. Keep in mind that the inside hole diameter of wine bottles vary as much as the selection of candy bars at your local market.

Berea Hardwoods Premium Bottle Stopper Kits

We are proud to supply two additional platings of Berea's classy premium bottle stopper - black titanium and gold titanium.  The all chrome stoppers have been available for some time and we wanted to do something different with them and we believe we have.  The rich black titanium and gold titanium plating is highlighted by the whiteness of the "O" rings and, as you can see in the pictures below, they really are exceptional.  The long lasting titanium plating over the solid brass body gives these stoppers a feel not offered by other stoppers.  Each stopper weighs approximately 3 1/2 ounces. These are perfect for that special piece of wood that you've been holding back.

A special "Thanks!" to Ed Davidson and Richard Kleinhenz for producing such fine work!

PSI 'T' Handle Bottle Stopper

The corkscrew is an integral part of the bottle stopper and is not available separately.

The 'T' handled stoppers shown above were made and photographed by Ed Davidson.

The 'T' handle on the corkscrew kits provide superior leverage for opening corked wine bottles.  These are very easy to make as all you need is two short pen blanks (1 1/2" long) to create the handles.  The 'T' handles also provide extra leverage (torque) when seating the stopper into a bottle.  No special mandrels are needed to make this stopper.

Making Bottle Stoppers

Compiled and photographed by Ed Davidson
"Mr. Bottle Stopper"
edd777@adelphia.net

Here are five different methods to chuck a bottle stopper blank on your lathe. There are probably several more, but these are the one's I'm most familiar with.

Method # 1...my favorite, with chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted using Arizona Silhouette's hefty mandrel in a drill chuck on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 23/64" bit.

Method # 2...chrome cone style stopper base, using PSI's 1" X 8tpi chuck mounted on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 11/32" bit.

Method # 3...Chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted onto a worm-screw that comes with all Nova "scroll chucks". The blank was drilled with a 3/8" bit.

Method # 4...Berea All-Chrome stopper base: Blank is mounted using Arizona Silhouette's little mandrel in a drill chuck on the headstock. The blank was drilled with a 6mm or 15/64" bit

Method # 5...My least favorite. Chrome cone style stopper base: Blank is mounted using a 3/8" metal rod about 2" long, in a Nova scroll chuck. Note the nail that's used to wedge the blank onto the chuck. The blank hole is drilled with a 3/8" bit.
