BHW-470
304 Stainless Steel Mini-Stoppers
Patent Pending

We have received numerous requests for a smaller bottle stopper made from stainless steel.  We are proud to introduce to you the Mini-Stopper!

Machined from one solid piece of 304 Stainless steel bar stock, these little beauties are made right here in the United States. They come with the same reliable & long lasting black silicone rubber wedge seal found on all of the stoppers we carry in this style (the seals are pre-installed by us and you don't have to worry about them breaking).  This one piece unit comes with the tenon cut with the same 3/8"-16 threads as our other black silicone wedge stoppers.  The threaded tenon is not removable.

The Mini-Stoppers have an overall length of 2 11/32" (including the threaded tenon).  Top of flat base to the pointed tip measures approximately 1 7/8" long and the base diameter measures approximately .734".

As you can see in the picture below the Mini-Stopper fits lower in a bottle with a smaller opening. Keep in mind that the inside hole diameter of wine bottles vary as much as the selection of candy bars at your local market.

We also stock 3/8"-16 bottom taps for those who would rather drill and tap (thread) a hole instead of just forcing the bottle stopper block onto the mandrel.  The tap requires a 5/16" drilled hole.

3/8"-16 Norseman Bottom Tap $3.95

5/16" Norseman Drill Bit $4.49
(for use with the 3/8"-16 bottom tap)

Bottle Stopper Buffing Handle

Have you ever had the sad experience of having a finished bottle stopper blank get 'caught & thrown' by a buffing wheel?  Using our Delrin handle will give you a much more secure way of buffing the stoppers and not having to worry about dodging a run-a-way stopper block.  The handle is 7" long and comes complete with two Delrin bushings for shallow or deep 3/8"-16 threads. This handle will work with the BHW-465, -466, -467, -468 and the -469 series stoppers.

Turning Threaded Boxes by John Swanson

As John Swanson states, "A box with a friction fit lid is nice; a box with a threaded lid is extra special." In this book, John takes the reader through every step necessary to create beautiful turned wooden boxes with threaded lids. Accompanying the precise and detailed text are over 250 color photographs, showing every technique and tool used by the author. A box layout table is also provided to ensure that the boxes you turn on your lathe will have the proper proportions between the lid and the base. Once the box has been turned on the lathe and successfully threaded, instructions for adding a lustrous, durable finish are provided. Also included in this valuable text are gallery photographs featuring many beautiful box designs turned in a variety of woods. This book is a must for every woodturner who has ever wanted to create boxes "with a twist."

Turning Boxes with Friction-Fitted Lids by Bill Bowers

An informative book designed for beginning and intermediate turners. Bill Bowers leads this step-by-step workshop for constructing the classic cylinder box, cylinder box variants with embellishments, the classic capsule box, and capsule box variants with chatter tool work. With over 300 color photos, each step is clearly described and illustrated, from mounting the blank on the lathe to finishing. Projects include a Raffan box, a pagoda box, the clam shell box, the gourd box, and small hollow form boxes with bottle top and finial top lids. A photo gallery helps give more ideas for new turned box styles.

Coral!

We have received many, many requests for red stone.  Authentic red and pink coral are both excellent choices as inlay materials.  However, their cost is such that most people experience 'sticker shock' (best described as clutching one's heart, staggering around followed by heavy breathing).

We are happy to announce that we have found a source for authentic coral that has been color processed in various shades of red.  It is easily turnable and reasonably priced.  We think you will be happy with these color additions added to our offerings of crushed stone without having to suffer 'sticker shock'.  All these colors of coral are available for $12.95 per ounce.
