Shortening the Overall Length of the Click Sierra Pen

Shortened desert ironwood Sierra (left) and an unaltered blue maple burl Sierra (right)
Crafted by Reed Kempton

Thanks to Reed Kempton for the instructions for this modification.

The Sierra click pen is in some cases too long for a shirt with short pockets.  In addition, the adapter (the chrome extension) for the Parker refill is confusing to some pen makers as well as their customers.

One means of solving the pen that is too long and the confusion is to use a regular Sierra tube and trim the length of the tube to 1.882" long.   After cutting the tube for a shortened Sierra pen the Uni-Ball refill will no longer work and there is no need for the chrome extension.

To convert the Carbara Pen to a Pencil
A special "Thanks!" to Tom Mullane for his great idea!
Tom's Website

Note:  The overall length of 3.790" is critical in order for the pencil mechanism to work properly.

The Olympia Ballpoint Pen

Olympia Ballpoint Pen Instructions PDF

One of the nice things about the Olympia pen is that there is flexibility in it's length.  This kit come with two 'long' tubes.  Each tube, together or independently, can be shortened by as much as 3/16" to achieve a different look and balance.  The instructions do not indicate this modification as the prototype kit was supplied with a 'short' 7mm lower tube and a longer 'O' upper tube and the instructions were written based on the 'short / 'long' tubes).

Special note effective September 1, 2005: the transmission adapter has a small end and a large end.  Install the adapter SMALL end first into the upper tube.  The small end of the adapter is actually what grabs and controls the transmission.  If you install the transmission adapter backwards the refill will not extend and retract.

The instructions, as originally written, called for an 'O' size drill bit for the upper tube.  Some pen makers prefer a little larger hole to allow more glue between the brass tube and the pen blank.  For that reason we changed the drill bit size to an 8.2mm.  This larger size offers a better glue joint than the 'O' bit.  A 'P' bit can also be used.

If you have questions or concerns concerning the Olympia pen please feel free to give us a call on clarification.

My personal opinion...
I am a forty-two year resident of Yuma, Arizona.  My home town is located on the Arizona/California/Mexico border along side the Colorado River.

Our country has been invaded by foreign nationals for over the past 25 years and I am no longer willing to keep my head down and not say anything for fear of offending someone.  If my personal beliefs effect my business - I'm willing to live with that.  If I have offended someone - I'm willing to live with that too.

I have lived in this great country for 63 years and I am not going to back down from any threat directed at the United States - foreign or domestic.  As Davy Crockett may have said: "Bring em' on!" (although I think the words may have been stated it in much stronger language).  If you would like to see for yourself what Arizona and this country is up against take a look at these two websites: mexica-movement.org and  mexica-movement .  Take a look at the pictures shown below.

If you would like to help out Arizona please consider donating to our state's legal defense fund by clicking on the link below.  This is not just an Arizona problem - illegal immigration affects all of us.  Should you believe as I do and want to help out then put your money where your mouth is.  70% of us living in Arizona approve of SB1070 and we certainly appreciate your support.  Someday we might be able to financially support your state in accomplishing the same legislation Arizona passed.

$5.00, $10.00 and $20.00 donations are most welcome.  Thank you for your consideration.

Update July 29, 2010   We are not giving up!

The following is an a example of what is taking place in Arizona.  Have you seen these pictures on any the main stream media outlets?
This demonstration took place on July 31, 2010 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
Jesus Christ and the American G.I.
One died for your soul and the other for your freedom.

A friend sent me the following:

What is a Veteran?   A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of up to and including his or her life.

It was 113 here yesterday....

A friend and customer called the other day and in the course of our conversation he mentioned that he had a dog that was fourteen years old and was showing signs of age.  I asked him if he had ever read "The Dog's Prayer" and he had not heard of it.  As a courtesy to him and to others that have not read it I am posting it here.  Kleenex will be needed.....

A Dog's Prayer

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside... for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements... and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land... for you are my god... and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

--Beth Norman Harris
